ABOUT

Carcassonne is based in the south of France in the former province of Languedoc. The city is separated into two areas, the fortified city and the much larger lower city.  The fort was restored in 1853 and became a World Heritage Site in 1997.

Carcassonne is another area of France well known for its wine but the main part of the cities income is the fort itself bringing in thousands of tourists each year and overall the city receives about 3 million visitors annually.  In 2006 Carcassonne airport started to run budget flights from destinations like Dublin and Liverpool boasting its tourism figures even higher.
